If you’ve ever Googled “digital products to sell online” or “how to sell digital products,” you’ve probably been buried under a pile of options: Etsy, Skool, Stan Store, SamCart, Gumroad, and the list goes on. It feels like being at an all-you-can-eat buffet where everything looks good but half of it gives you food poisoning.
The truth? Many of these platforms aren’t designed to help creators actually scale. They either:
Take huge cuts of your profits.
Put you in a race-to-the-bottom price war.
Or leave you with zero control over your customer relationships.
That’s why knowing what to avoid is just as important as knowing what to do.
Let’s talk about the elephants in the room:
Etsy – Great if you want to sell handmade jewelry, not so great if you want to sell digital products. Why? Because the competition is sky-high, buyers expect bargain-basement pricing, and the platform itself doesn’t give you control over your brand or customer relationships. Translation: you’ll work harder for less.
Skool – I’ll give credit where it’s due: Alex and Leila Hormozi are brilliant. But for digital product sellers, Skool is not the promised land. Between high competition and sky-high processing fees (hello, 10% cuts), you’re left hustling in someone else’s ecosystem instead of building your own.
Stan Store & SamCart – These are glorified checkout pages. Nothing wrong with that if you’re just dabbling, but if you actually want to grow your business, these tools won’t do the heavy lifting for you.
Bottom line? If your goal is predictable, scalable income, these platforms will keep you stuck in hobby-mode instead of helping you build a business.
Here’s where it gets good. Forget overcomplicated funnels and endless social media hustle. The two strategies that helped me sell over $12M in digital products are surprisingly simple.
1. Selling Digital Products with DM Automation
Imagine posting a Reel that sparks curiosity, then waking up to hundreds—even thousands—of people commenting a keyword to learn more. That’s exactly how my students and I use DM Automation to sell digital products online.
Here’s how it works:
Post an engaging piece of content (like a Reel).
Share the benefits, pique curiosity, and invite viewers to comment a keyword.
A DM Automation chatbot handles the rest—delivering your offer, following up, and moving people to purchase.
One of my students, Amanda, had over 71,200 people message her in less than five months using this strategy. And the best part? Unlike ManyChat, which gets more expensive as your list grows, the system I use allows unlimited contacts so your costs don’t balloon with your success.
This is one of the fastest ways to sell digital products online, and it works even if you don’t have a huge audience.
2. Selling Digital Products with YouTube
If DM Automation is the “fast pass” to sales, YouTube is the foundation for long-term success. Think about it: people are literally searching for answers every single day. If you create content around what your ideal buyers are already typing into the search bar, you don’t just get views—you get warm leads ready to buy.
The key is to:
Know who your best buyer is.
Create videos that answer their biggest challenges.
Share the “what” and the “why” in your content, but sell the “how” through your digital products.
This is exactly why I pour so much energy into my YouTube channel. It’s not about chasing views—it’s about building a library of content that works 24/7 to sell digital products online while I’m out living life.
Here’s the magic: DM Automation gives you quick wins and cash flow, while YouTube builds a long-term traffic machine that keeps delivering buyers year after year.
Together, they’re like peanut butter and jelly—good on their own, but unstoppable when you put them together.
This blog post is just the highlight reel. In the full episode, I dive deeper into each strategy, walk you through real examples, and show you exactly how to set this up for your business. If you’ve been searching for the best way to sell digital products online without feeling overwhelmed, this is the episode you don’t want to miss.
