Sales Prospecting Tips – Dealing With Rejection When You First Get Started in Your Business

Remember when you first got started in your network marketing business?

You were full of excitement and just couldn’t wait to start sharing it with the world.

And you were 100% certain that everyone was going to capture the vision and be eager to sign up and get started.

But that wasn’t exactly the way it all panned out, was it?

Sales Prospecting Tips – Pretty Soon The Reality of Dealing With Rejection Set In

If after joining your network marketing business your expectation is that everyone will be eager to sign up and join your team, then, of course, you’ll feel dejected and discouraged.

And it’s all because we set our expectations and our mindset up to lose instead of winning.

Now, this may not be your fault.

A lot of network marketers fail in their business because they don’t get the proper training from their leaders and they jump in with all the wrong expectations.

Sales Prospecting Tips – Set The Right Expectations

Rejection is inevitable when you're selling, but you may not get as discouraged if you know what to expect.

Something that I do with my team that’s really important is I set the right expectations from day one.

You can do this with yourself if you don’t have a team or you can use what I say to my new team members when you bring someone new on board.

Here’s what I tell a new teammate when they get started;

“Hey John, when you go out and start prospecting I want you to know that you are going to totally suck at it. And that’s okay. So, I want you to use your first 10 business presentations as practice ground to help you get better at your presenting skills. Don’t worry if people say yes or no to you.” At this point that doesn’t matter.

I set up the proper expectation and then I share a story or two about how I sucked when I first got started and we have a little chuckle about it.

This will make them tougher when they go out to prospect and will set them up to win because they already know what to expect.

Sales Prospecting Tips – In Closing

Dealing with rejection when you are in network marketing and sales is normal.

However, you’ll want to make sure that your business presentations and sales processes are being done properly.

You can set up your new team members expectation properly every time but if they aren’t doing a proper presentation they will never come to see a YES in their business and that can kill the growth of your business.

If you’re doing a lot of presentations yet still getting a lot of objection from people that you’re presenting to, then you’re probably going about it the wrong way.
