Just think of the slimy used car salesmen…he’s icky and sleazy and he’s the last thing you want to be remembered as.

Sales Tips – How To Be Authentic & Still Get People To Buy Fast – Episode 125

This week, since we’re talking about being authentic with your prospects during the sales process I’m giving you My Top 20 Prospecting Questions so that it’s easier for you to build a relationship with your prospects and not come across as weird or salesy.

This Episode was actually sparked by one of the members of my Facebook Group community called the B-Lab.

B-Lab stands for Build Like A Boss and it’s my entrepreneurial business community where I share a lot of tips, answer questions and provide feedback so that everyone feels supported and has the best chance at building their business successfully.

So I got a question from one of the members of the group and she asked;

“Tanya, how can you be authentic without seeming salesy? I don’t know if you’ve heard of the color personalities but I’m a green and I always like talking about what’s in my products or how it works vs how it will actually help somebody but that isn’t what people actually care about.”

So the girl that asked this question is actually realizing that what matters to her isn’t necessarily what others care about and she wants to be more authentic when she’s prospecting so she doesn’t come across as weird or salesy.

Sales Tips – Being authentic in your sales process is all about asking questions

Asking questions is KEY in uncovering the needs of your prospects and in coming across as authentic.

And if you already know your prospect, think about what things you already know about them before you even reach out to them.

Before I start a conversation with someone I like to use the F.O.R.M. acronym.

I base my conversations around this when I’m prospecting.

F.O.R.M stands for:

F – Family
O – Occupation
R – Recreation
M – Motivation

So before you’re talking to your prospect think about whether they have a problem or struggle in any of these 4 areas of their life and have your product, service or business be the solution for their problem.

Sales Tips – Talk with people not at people

It’s really important that when you’re prospecting someone you’re aware of the difference between talking with someone vs talking at them.

And this is why using this F.O.R.M. acronym is so important.

But I’ll give you an example to make this easier to implement when you’re having a conversation with your prospects.

Let’s use someone named Christie as our example.

Christie is your friend and you’re wondering how to start a conversation with her.

So I would think about past conversations that you’ve had with Christie or any posts that she’s done on social media.

Any communication you've had with her where she’s shared something about her family, job, recreation or motivation.

So let’s say that Christie one day shared with you that she wanted to take her kids to Disney Land and give her kids the trip of a lifetime.

But Christie shared that she was worried about taking the time off of work and not having that income coming in when she was away and also knew the cost of going to Disney would be significant.

So I would start the conversation by saying;

“Hey Christie, what’s going on?” I remember last we spoke you were saying that you were really wanting to take the kids to Disney but you were worried about finances.

How are you doing with that? Have you been able to take the time off work to do that yet?”

So you want to just find out where they’re at and let them tell you.

So let’s say for example she say’s she hasn’t been able to take her kids to Disney yet.

I would say, “Hey Christie what if I told you that I found something that would allow you to take that amazing trip to Disney with the kids without money being an issue AND maybe even making some money while you're in Disney.

“Would you be interested in learning more about how you could do that?”

Keeping the focus on Christie and her problems and struggles makes it all about her.

And at the end of the day, it's not about you or your product, business or service.

It's all about your prospect and helping them out.

This is what will set YOU apart from everyone else wanting nothing more than a transaction to happen so they can make a sale.

And that's why these sales tips will help you stand out because you're being authentic in your sales process.

Sales Tips – Closing phrases that will help you be more Authentic and close more sales

There are a couple of phrases that I’ll use during the whole process to make the transition from conversation to closing a lot easier and it looks like this:

✅“Wouldn’t it be cool if?”

✅“How serious are you about that?”

✅“How much money would you need to accomplish that goal or dream?”

✅“What would it take to do that?”

If you’re in health & wellness & you’re selling weight loss you could ask:

✅“How much weight do you want to lose?”

Asking the right questions is key in making your sales process authentic and also being able to help people and not just selling them something.

Sales Tips – In Closing

Helping people is all about building relationships.

And you can’t build relationships without being authentic.

And also make sure you ask questions. I can’t emphasize how important this is.

It will help you be more authentic and sell more but more importantly, you’ll enjoy the whole process and so will your prospects.
