Should you start a podcast to help you grow your business and brand?

I’ve actually been thinking about this myself because as you know, I do YouTube videos and at the time of me recording this episode I don’t have a Podcast yet...

But, I’ve been seriously thinking about it and I’ve been doing some research to figure it out and see if it’s my next good move.

AND I believe it’s great for certain people:

✓People that might be terrified of video
✓People that are looking for another piece of real estate to help them get their message and brand out there
✓People that are looking to massively grow their network, even if they have no one that listens to them now
✓People that are interested in growing their Influence and Brand

Should you start a podcast? - Ian Lenhart is in the house!!!

I’ve had the pleasure of watching Ian take his brand from zero to hero. He has interviewed high-level and successful people on his podcast and has taken his podcast to a successful level in such a short period of time.

But Ian didn’t start from the top, he had to start from zero, just like many of us.

Before he went into podcasting, Ian was growing a business in networking company when he was just 20 years old.

He successfully built a team of 1600 people in 13 ½ months and he was living the life until the company he was working with got shut down overnight.

After some soul searching, Ian started working with a start-up company which became successful and gave him the chance to interview different people who are experts in their own fields.

He began doing Facebook interviews, which ultimately led him to podcasting.

Let's go on this journey with me where I pick Ian's brain on podcasting and ask him some really good questions about how he started his podcast and how it became so successful.

Should you start a podcast?

The best thing about podcasting is it’s evergreen content.

Since you’re building a long form communication on many subjects, you’re in your listener's ears.

That’s the name of the game in today’s society, where everyone is losing focus so quickly.

For some people, watching a video can be challenging because it needs both your visual and audio focus.

But with podcasting, you can multitask while listening.

For Ian, since he has recorded over 90 podcast episodes, which translates to hours and hours of being in listener's ears, he has created credibility among his audience that has qualified him to talk more about other subjects, such as network podcasting.

What's the difference between podcasting and other platforms?

Podcast is basically a recorded conversation.

Podcasting is a lot simpler than video recording and your listeners can take it anywhere with them.

Unlike watching videos, anyone can listen to podcasts anytime, anywhere, even while they’re doing something.

They can listen when they’re jogging or when they’re cooking.

For some podcast creators, it is also much more convenient because they can record while driving or waiting.

Who would you recommend podcasting to?

Podcasting is the new blog.

Let’s be honest, no one is going to read a 10,000 word blog (unless your an avid reader or have tons of spare time).

With so many distractions around us, you can benefit from a podcast.

If you have a lot to share and talk about, but don’t have the time or resources to create a video or a blog.

When you get into people’s ears, you build trust and connection.

Plus, it takes up a lot more time to prepare and set-up videos, so it’s easier and quicker in comparison to creating a podcast.

If you’re looking to increase credibility on a subject, podcasting is also a great way to do so.

For example, Ian has interviewed a lot of successful people and because of that, people have associated him with the people he has interviewed.

It’s a great way to build up your brand when you collaborate with the right people and you can use it as leverage to become successful.

How did you MAP out your Podcast and what was your goal when you launched it?

While Ian is an expert in what he does now, he didn’t have an A-Z guide when he started podcasting.

As his podcast episodes increased, his podcasts also improved.

His secret is not just about building great content, but building a great community of supporters.

For Ian, it’s very empowering to see someone realize their own power and all they needed was some guidance.

Should you start a podcast? - What does a good Podcast content schedule look like?

Podcasting can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be.

You can support it with other social media platforms, but Ian’s advice to those who are just starting out is DON’T DO VIDEO, just do audio.

At first, it can take 3-4 hours to a week to put out a podcast, depending on how simple or complex you want it to be.

It can be as simple as recording on your phone and posting the podcast on different feeds or it can be as complex as including marketing for your podcasts.

Make it simple at first.

Once you consistently create 20-30 podcasts, then you can begin to add more elements to it.

Consistency is very important, so it would be best to maintain a schedule.

How do you grow your podcast?

One way to grow your podcast is to bring in a guest to talk about a specific subject.

When you bring an expert to talk about a specific subject, it brings it up to people’s minds.

It’s important to build a relationship and get people to listen to your podcast.

To do so, you need to be an expert or you need to invite an expert to talk.

It is also important to create a call to action in your podcasts.

This way, it can help bring in sales or create a bigger base for your brand or business.

For example, Ian also creates videos and Instagram content directed to his listeners for every podcast he posts.
